Understanding the ADEA

The Age Discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 (ADEA) applies to employees who are at least 40 years old and work for private employers who have a minimum of 20 employees, as well as state or local governments, the federal government, employment agencies, or labor organizations. There are several protections that employees are offered under the ADEA. Some of the actions that are considered age discrimination include the following:

  • Including age preferences, specifications, limitations, etc. in job postings (with some exceptions)
